Design Objective

The target was to achieve Vertical Takeoff and Landing with a simple Vehicle that can go airborne

  • without a swivelling engine
  • without the large drag of a helicopter in cruise flight

The Sonicopter principle was born - A single engine airCraft with a short wing, that takes of from a "squat position".

Aerodynamic Development

During the development phase extended Aerodynamic Modelling based on the "Datcom Collection", intensive work with related high lift device NACA reports and wind tunnel experiments on high lift devices were conducted.
